We are all born with the capacity to bring something to this world. Some  of us have the innate “need” to create. It is an interesting and difficult to explain phenomenon. It is hardly an expression of ego because ego and true creativity do not come from the same place. I love trying new materials and new ideas.  If we don’t take on challenges that push our abilities to their limits, how would they grow?
My customers are people who haven’t been able to find a local jeweler capable of bringing their idea to reality. There are many people out there who do custom jewelry, so it would be foolish to say that I am better than everyone else. The best way to set oneself apart is to be distinct and to me, that is the natural state.

Let's talk

The Idea

I was studying for an exam at the university. It was physical chemistry and the headache was severe. A distraction in the form of an idea to create metal oak leaves came to mind. It is difficult to explain how and why did this happen. I carved an oak leaf from candle wax then produced a mold in Plaster of Paris. That miraculously rested my left brain hemisphere. At that time I was not able to cast “regular” metals, so I needed a low temperature alloy. The first cast was made out of tin.

2004
A Strange Meeting

During a visit to Miami South Beach, I entered a fancy store selling ornate furniture. There were some interesting chandeliers with leaves on display, but when I examined them closely, it was obvious that they were not made with much skill. The store owner asked me if I liked them to which I replied: “Sorry, I can do better”. “Really”? He said. “I have 19 stores. Show me what you can do. Here is my business card.” I told him I was still in grad school and that we probably won’t be able to make a deal. I didn’t give it much thought and enjoyed my vacation.

Cicmil Crowns Jewelry Was Created

As of 2012 art stopped being a hobby of mine and became a business. The decision came with many expressions of disbelief from family and friends. If you want to test your family, friends, or a partner, just tell them that you have started a business.

Still Growing

By the end of 2014 a big landmark took place. It was the 100th successfully completed unique project. The number seems small, but the landmark was big. This is because all jewelry was made from scratch and involved communication with customers. On average it took about 12 emails to communicate the ideas for each piece and many hours of work to complete just one project.
